Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering
Program Overview
Offered through the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, the M.S., Ph.D., and certificate programs in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering prepares students for leadership careers in government and industry. Students and faculty work together to explore solutions in areas such as mobile robots for search and rescue missions; defense and environmental monitoring; smart materials; and plasma-based methods for reinforcing industrial plastics in transportation vehicles.

Master of Science in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (M.S.)
- Credit hours
- With thesis: 24 credit hours of coursework + 6 credit hours of thesis research
- Without thesis: 33 credit hours of coursework
- Duration: Full-time (enrolled min. 9 credit hours per semester) or part-time (min. 3 credit hours per semester)

Doctor of Philosophy in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (Ph.D.)
- Credit hours (for those without a master's degree): 36 credit hours of coursework + 18 credit hours of research
- Credit hours (for those with a master's degree): 12 credit hours of coursework + 18 credit hours of research
- Duration: 4-6 years

Graduate Certificate Programs
The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering offers two graduate certificate programs. Students may apply to undertake the certificate program independently or do the program in conjunction with a master's or doctoral program. Students may also apply credits from a certificate program toward a master's in mechanical and aerospace engineering:
