Admitted Students Checklist
Congratulations on your acceptance to the George Washington University! Now that you've received your admissions offer, it's time to look at the next steps you must take to enroll as a graduate student at the School of Engineering & Applied Science:
Attention committed students:
Once you have accepted your admission to GW and receive your GW email address, please regularly monitor your GW email address for important communications regarding your admissions status and enrollment at GW.
- Review & accept your offer of admission

Log into the application portal to review your admissions letter.
If you have any questions regarding your admissions letter, please contact [email protected], NOT your academic department.
Follow the steps outlined in your admissions letter to indicate whether you would like to accept your admissions offer, defer to a future semester, or decline your offer. - Pay the deposit

- After you have accepted your offer of admission, please pay your enrollment deposit. The enrollment deposit is $250 and non-refundable.
- Visit the GW Student Portal (GWeb InfoSystem) to pay the enrollment deposit.
- The GWeb InfoSystem allows online access to GW student services, such as registering for classes, viewing student accounts, viewing grades and accepting financial aid.
- The system will list the personal information we have for you, such as billing address and contact information.
Instructions for paying the deposit
- Under the deposit category dropdown, select SEAS Graduate Admissions.
- F-1 visa-seeking international students ONLY: I-20 & visa process

- Once you have submitted your enrollment deposit, the Office of Graduate Admissions & Student Services will provide you with instructions and information regarding materials you need to submit in order for GW to create an I-20 form or DS-2019 form

- Claim your GW Identity and email address

- GW email addresses will be formatted as [email protected]. In the event there are more than one individuals at the University with your same name, a number will append to your last name.
- Students who have accepted their admission will receive an email sent to their preferred personal email address from [email protected] with instructions on how to verify your UserID and set a central password. After verifying your UserID, you will receive a confirmation email to your preferred personal email address with your newly assigned GW email address.
- Please visit the GW IT website for instructions on how to claim your new GW Identity if you do not receive an email with instructions on how to verify your UserID.
- Make an appointment with your Professional Advisor

Make an introductory appointment with your Graduate Professional Advisor to learn more about your next steps and other important resources. Topics covered include:

DegreeMap: Helps you track your courses and credit hours and your progress towards completing your degree. Access will be provided to incoming students the month prior to the first semester of classes.

University Bulletin: Information about academic policies, course descriptions, degree requirements, fee information, and financial regulations.

Department websites: Where you can find core course guidelines.

GW Student Portal: Provides the official schedule of classes for the upcoming semester. You will need to log in using your Net ID or GW e-mail login combination.

- Register for classes

- Students are strongly encouraged to make a virtual appointment with their Graduate Professional Advisor prior to registering for classes.
- Consult the Schedule of Classes for course details. You will need to use your UserID to log in.
- NOTE: Penalty fees apply if you drop any classes after the first two weeks of classes. See the Registrar's Office for more details.

- International students: You will not have access to register for classes until you have completed the I-20/DS-2019 form request process.

Once you are admitted to a graduate program at the School of Engineering & Applied Science, you must submit a complete set of official credentials (transcripts) from all institutions previously attended to the SEAS Office of Graduate Admissions & Student Services in a sealed envelope by the deadline listed. - Immunization Requirements & Documentation

- District of Columbia law requires all students under the age of 26 to have a record on file with the Student Health Center (SHC) providing proof of certain vaccinations. Students age 26 and older are automatically exempt from university vaccination requirements. For further information or questions, please review the SHC Vaccination Requirements or e-mail [email protected].
- New students will be able to register for their first semester without a health form on file. However, a hold will be placed on your account to prevent future registration if all required vaccination records are not submitted to the Student Health Center.
- COVID-19 Vaccination: After a thorough assessment of the current state of COVID-19, the university strongly recommends, but will no longer require, COVID-19 vaccination for all community members. We urge everyone to stay up to date with the latest booster or new vaccination recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
- View and pay your E-Bill on your student account

Once you have registered for classes, a Statement of Account will be emailed to your GW email account regarding the payment due date. Review the materials carefully.
- NOTE: Payment is typically due before the first day of the semester or summer session, or by the first day of class for courses offered in a timeline other than the traditional semester or summer session.
- If you would like pay your account in person or have questions, please visit the Student Services Hub for the Student Accounts office.
- Note: Tuition discount awards will be added to your student account in the weeks prior to the first day of classes. Please do not pay your E-bill until the award is listed on your student account.
- Obtain health insurance

All students matriculated in a degree-granting on-campus program, including international students on a J-1 or F-1 visa, are required to have health insurance while they study at GW. Students are automatically charged and enrolled in the GW SHIP and must submit a waiver form if they have another insurance plan that meets the required waiver criteria. - Plan your travel & housing

- As a reminder, there is no on-campus housing for graduate students. Incoming students must seek housing in one of the neighborhoods surrounding GW.
- Familiarize yourself with the neighborhoods surrounding campus where students often live. You can also visit the Off Campus Housing website.

- Get your student ID card & participate in welcome events

- The GWorld card is the official identification card for George Washington University students, staff, and faculty. Your GWorld card is used to access the library, the Science & Engineering Hall, and other important campus facilities. It may also be used to pay for copy and printing services, as well as food at restaurants on and off campus.
- To obtain a GWorld card, you must go to the GWorld Card Office no earlier than one month prior to the first day of classes. You must have present your GWid number, passport/government-issued ID, AND be registered for at least one course at GW.
