Graduate Ambassador Program

The GW Engineering Office of Graduate Admissions & Student Services (OGA) recruits and trains current students to serve as GW Engineering Graduate Ambassadors. GW Engineering Graduate Ambassadors play pivotal roles in leadership by building and facilitating the graduate student community at the School of Engineering & Applied Science. Ambassadors engage with prospective, new and current graduate students, as well as participate in activities to encourage research participation, innovation and community building. Each ambassador serves a one-year term that may include assisting with efforts such as recruiting, programming, community building, and diversity, equity & inclusion initiatives.

Qualifications & Eligibility

  • Currently enrolled in an MS or PhD program in the School of Engineering and Applied Science; will be enrolled for the entire 2024-2025 academic year 
  • Must have completed at least one semester as a SEAS graduate student and must be in good academic standing (3.0 GPA or higher, no holds on student account)
  • Must submit your course schedule for the fall 2024 semester and include any other obligations that would impact your availability during the semester 

Expectations

Advising Ambassador Expectations

  • Attend graduate advising staff meetings twice a month

  • Collaborate with the advising team on graduate student engagement events throughout the semester. This includes but is not limited to, brainstorming event ideas, managing event logistics, promotion and implementation of events. 

  • Encourage graduate student participation in SEAS events

  • Chat with prospective students via the Unibuddy platform

  • Participate in social media efforts to highlight our school and student experience

Admissions Ambassador Expectations

  • Attend admissions staff meetings twice per month 
  • Develop an understanding of GW Engineering’s graduate admissions process and policies
  • Chat with prospective students via the Unibuddy platform
  • Join GW Engineering virtual recruitment events to provide current student perspective
  • Participate in social media efforts to highlight our school and student experience
  • Work with staff or faculty on admissions projects; help develop prospective student outreach plans
  • Assist with implementing on-campus events; conduct campus tours or meet with prospective students as requested

Compensation

GW Engineering Graduate Ambassadors are appointed for one academic year and are compensated through a $1,250 stipend per semester ($2,500 for the full academic year). Payment is processed at the beginning of each semester.
